how can playing in a tidepool for a couple hours wear me out so much?

I am tired! And I’m really wondering what is wrong with me! Yeah, I ran 5.5 mi this morning in the heat (it was high 80’s at 9am), so maybe I’m dehydrated. Or maybe it’s working non-stop every second I got this week. We enjoyed this little adventure tonight. Our friend Laurie and her 3 yr old daughter joined us for the tidepools, followed by pizza catered by Dave, who also brought wine for us. (Thanks hubby!) It was quite the adventure. You had to either slip and slide your way over rocks to get to the tidepools, or skid down a steep incline from the road above. We all made it and had a great time. We even caught the full moon rise. Please see the link in the sidebar to the right for “Album” to view all the pictures from this past week, including a movie 🙂
I had a great idea for Fridays…even Dave thinks it’s an intriguing one…you’ve heard of geocaching? Doing navigation based on GPS coordinates and following clues to the ultimate destination/prize? I was thinking maybe I’d do the same thing – pick a location, figure out the GPS coords, send them to Dave and have him show up at the appointed time with pizza for Sam, me and any other intrepid adventurers 🙂 Please comment that you LOVE the idea to build grassroots support for this concept 🙂 Ha ha!
Out looking for mischief and all we get is LOST!

Don’t worry, everything turned out ok! Angel and I went for a hike this morning to Manoa Falls on the leeward side of the island. First, we stopped to get lattes (a tradition that started with my buddy Ang in WA). I remarked to Angel that I was dissatisfied with the paltry amount of mischief in my life.
I am SUCH a geek
hike with a view
Video and photos: 2006-09-30 Pillbox hike
We went on a quick hike in Lanikai yesterday, near our home. The ridge hike offered great views, and a tiny bit of treacherous footing! I wish I had my trekking poles with me, but Dave served as a great substitute. Sam enjoyed the hike from his backpack vantage point. It was too high and steep for him to get out and walk. Hope you enjoy the movie. Note – at 24 sec into the video, you are looking down onto where we live, back toward some green space (the marsh). Around 20 sec you are looking at the Marine Corps base, a peninsula that juts out into the ocean. We otherwise had a pretty lazy weekend working on projects which seemed like they should go quickly but mushroomed into more. We got out for a good bike ride today onto the Marine Corps base – a trail that circled some very ancient fishponds. Nice ride.
Tonight we had dinner with our friends Mike and Angel – it was so great to see them and enjoy an impromptu dinner together. Dave whipped up a good tuna farfalle for us and Sam enjoyed chomping down dinner, then lots of dessert as he circled everyone’s laps to read and swipe their chocolates. He was a little wound up afterwards 🙂
signs that we’re officially moved in
Video: Extreme playtime
As I unpacked my temporary desk (a blue plastic accordion file that has been with me for 5 moves), I realized that we are officially settled in. When even the papers have found their permanent resting place, that’s a good sign!
virtual house tour!
Sam’s laugh and misc updates
This is Sam’s most-requested video, so I am posting it where it’s easy to find when you need a good laugh. The deck was finished yesterday, and Sam and I planted trees and flowers all afternoon. We planted a lemon and lime tree, four hibiscus, two jasmine, transplanted a tea leaf and planted a couple palms.
first kayak expedition

We decided to sneak out and kayak after lunch today – a little reward for accomplishing so much this weekend! We got the office/guest room put together and the sea of wires and cables has been tamed around the entertainment center.
busy week, but time out for a little hike

Sam and I have been busy this week – I’ve had steady work and Sam has been very busy in his “office” managing a town (new set of blocks with buildings, trees, cars – he’s learning about STOP signs).
Spicy grilled opah
Dave grilled us some opah tonight, accompanied by asparagus/mushrooms/sesame seeds, salad and soba noodles. It was so ono (delicious) that I had to copy the recipe below in case you find any opah in your freezer 🙂 (We use the categories to find our recipes again – so this is as much for you as for us!)
first coffee bar guests | tandem kayak!
Video: The drive up to our house.
Video: Coffee bar is open! (Note: speed slowed to half because I panned too fast.)
We enjoyed an early morning latte/cappucino with Mike and Angel this morning. Dave made excellent drinks for us with his espresso machine and French press. The coffee tastes so fresh when brewed with a press. Even I am convinced the extra work is worth it 🙂
uniquely Hawaiian things
Hawaiian sea salt – amazing – add to fish with lemon and grill (we did a Pacific blue marlin the other night, with sticky rice and salad and pineapple dressing – very tasty!); last night we had Kalua pig made with hickory smoke flavor and sea salt, cooked on low in the slow cooker for 16 hours, also very good. You remember my misoyaki butterfish? Also quite tasty – I’m going to see if I can add it to the recipe list.
deoderant with alpine lichen in it – hmmm…bought this yesterday because it seemed interesting. will let you know how it works! smells good.
you know you’ve had a long week when . . .
[photopress:hobie_kayak.jpg,thumb,thumb] [photopress:hobie_kayak_2.jpg,thumb,thumb]
you don’t feel like typing initial caps; you leave the sunroof on your car open and it just happens to pour last night; you can’t find your truck keys in the morning on your way to work and find them IN the truck, battery dead.
long crazy dayz
Having food in the fridge makes all the difference

It really feels like home now that we can cook something to eat! And yes, Dave’s clothes are now in the closet. The four foot heap is totally gone! Goodwill is really going to be happy, too.
