This butterfly was in our backyard - damaged left wing. I think it's a Kamehameha butterfly. Special visit!
Getting ready to take off on our hike.
Wardrobe malfunction! Fanny packs don't "stick" too well unless you are endowed well enough. Anneliese is gear-testing for us.
I think this is mongoose poop, although I couldn't find any confirmatory images on the web. Go figure. Perhaps this will be the first forensic scatalogy of mongoose feces.
This is a very common "hiker" on our trails - the Gulf fritillary I think. It feeds on passionvine.
The Bellows Loop Trail is a 2.8 mile loop on Bellows Air Force Station. It's stroller friendly and a great place to trail-run. I can't wait to get out there with Ben and Sam! Maybe that will be our first outing. Much of the trail winds through ironwoods, so there is good shade as well. At the end there's a playground and the beach. Perfect.
Sam is already very dirty from playing in the gravel on the old landing strip.
He really wanted to hold hands today for some reason. Not with mommy...
Ah - ha! Finally got her! (Anneliese didn't want to hold hands at first.)
Heading into a shady area.
My wings are THIS WIDE! (He was talking about being an airplane and landing on the runway.)
Awesome forest and trail for running! Sand, shade...
We ran into some ladies learning to make leis. This is Harriet with her beautiful paper cutout. Kathy and I made mental notes so we can be crafty sometime :)
The flowers smelled great and the kids always enjoy these "lollipop" flowers.
Here mommy, lick it!
Off to the playground!

Snorting like a piggy!
Building a fire :) An essential skill! (No, not a real fire, but was I tempted, just a tiny wee bit???)

A big coconut with ants feeding on the remains.
Yum! Ice cream at Dave's afterwards! Look at that face!
