wish i were a truck…

so today was pretty full, and i’m sitting here with a beer, reflecting… mom, sam and i went on a wild round-the-sound trip today to go to a doctor appointment at madigan army hospital in tacoma, then up to seattle to drop off the truck for shipment to hawaii (which takes ~21 days). my plan is to have the truck there for us when we arrive 7/24 so we don’t have to rent. next week i ship the VW so dave has a car for work when he reports the end of july. in the meantime i walk everywhere (which is fine by sam and me) and borrow a car if really necessary. such a long day of driving. imagine the seattle traffic on a normal fri afternoon (reportedly the worst in the country), then imagine it on a long holiday weekend fri afternoon, then imagine you are in the car with a toddler who has been cooped up all day in the car. if that doesn’t frighten you…just kidding. sam was actually a doll. i think i was grumpier. when we finally got to the ferry (even if i had to wait an hour for it, it was better to do that than drive around and sit in traffic) there was a medical emergency so it took a while to load…we walked around and talked to strangers. tomorrow we go camping out on the coast with a couple friends. i already called and bailed on the trip, saying i just can’t fathom it being fun to be camping sidled right up next to a million other people on a holiday weekend (not my favorite camping situation) but since i promised sam we’d go on a “trip” to the “ocean” (words he knows), i called back and un-bailed. so the car is packed, food is ready, tent is folded up and electric cooler is cooling (i managed to plug it in the wrong way and it was heating first!). wish us luck! pictures will be posted monday when we get back 🙂 until then, i will be “UNPLUGGED” from the world for a change, hopefully basking in the sun, and relaxing a little. i sure wish i was the Xterra, put on a ship for a little cruise to the islands, with no responsibilities for 21 days. hmmm…kinda like daddy out to sea! ha – he would strongly disagree with that, but still, sometimes i wish i was out to sea and someone else was managing the trivia that seems to consume every waking minute these days.
