weekend adventures

Last night we enjoyed a sumptuous feast at our friends’ home – Nate and Laurie and daughter Cate. Sam really enjoys playing with Catie, well truthfully playing with her toys – he’s still doing parallel play most of the time. Nate and Laurie enjoy cooking as much as we do, so we’ve been trading off hosting dinner. It’s great to have adventure buddies – both for outdoors activities and food – our two favorite things!

Laurie made red snapper tossed over linguine with a basil and sage cream sauce. Very good! We just brought salad and bread 🙂 Good deal for us! Nate had the tough job – figure out how to fillet the red snapper. Then after dinner we had homemade dark chocolate and peanut butter ice cream. it was outrageously good! After all that good stuff, Sam got to bed a little late and ended up waking up early. He often does that after an exciting evening out – not a good deal for us but we took advantage of it this morning by heading out early for breakfast, hiking books in hand, and checked out a new trail afterwards. It was really cool – a 10mi trail one way from the tunnels through the mountains to Waimanalo. The trail hugs the mountainside so you get great vistas as you weave your way in and out of the valleys. We probably did 5 mi roundtrip and look forward to staging cars so we can hike through the next time.
