USS Arizona

There are so many privileges to being a dependent of an active duty service member. One such we enjoyed today – a tour of the USS Arizona from the Admiral’s barge. The tour began at the boathouse and a little museum inside with very good maps of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Then we toured the harbor itself, seeing the USS Utah memorial, then where the Nevada ran aground at Hospital Point to avoid blocking the channel as it made a desperate run for the ocean. Finally we arrived at the USS Arizona, three days after the 67th anniversary of the attack. There were many flowers, but I found this arrangement most compelling. Our friends Matt and Melodie really appreciated this experience – it’s one not many people are afforded. I just reserved a spot for Dave’s parents – wasn’t able to get them in until the day they leave! Thank you, Dave, for making this happen.
