trading lives for a time

Sammy and I hope to catch a KC-10 to McGuire AFB tomorrow morning. We’ll be flying 12 hrs from Hawaii to NJ. I have never spent more than 6 hrs in a plane. I took Dave’s sea bag for the journey – the green canvas bag is stuffed to the gills with four weeks of warm weather and cool weather clothes, running and hiking gear, swim stuff, and a foam futon mattress for Sam. And a tent. We always travel with a tent. Ready for anything! It is interesting preparing for a one-month “deployment.” We’re really excited to travel around the northeast and feel the cool fall air, see our family and friends, and have an adventure. We went for a last run and visit to the tide pools today so we could soak up enough warm Hawai’i air to tide us over. Sammy got to see a live squid while we were there. Now he’s playing “sticky squid” after bouncing and bouncing on the futon “travel bed.” We’ll try to post regularly so Dave at least knows what is going on 🙂 And what state we’re in 🙂 And what mischief has transpired. Say a prayer that I actually sleep tonight. I am so excited…the whole military plane thing…wondering if we’ll even get a seat…

I loved looking through all your august photos and catching up on you. I love all the family time you were able to have. Leave is so wonderful! :o) I want so badly to hang with you on Wed. nights. I dream about visiting you and how much fun we and our kids would have together. If a miracle occurs and I can get there…..I promise to come (hopefully that’s what you would want too) LOL 😛

Thinking about you all the time….
    XOXO

Sounds like you had a great plane trip — looking forward to the photos!! Thinking about your adventure all the time. I miss the fall in the NE (and winter, too), but I’m leaving for 11 days in CA to play and get my house ready for me to be in Hawaii for 6 months!

    Love you,
    mom
