S. A. D.
So I have finally hit upon it – a diagnosis for my mystifying funk here in the land of paradise. Most people get Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.) in places with very few sunny days. Not me. I have Sunshine Affective Disorder. Today I was in paradise – there were wind gusts to rival what we had in WA (30mph) and periods of RAIN! Wow! So Sam and I headed out for a run to enjoy some WEATHER for a change. After my 6mi run I often grab a latte and walk home the last 1/2 mile. Today it started pouring just as I headed toward home, coffee in hand, stroller in the other. I threw on the stroller’s rain cover to shield me since I was already cold, sweaty, and recovering from a nasty cold. I looked totally ridiculous with my bright yellow rain cover hanging off my head, but was I smiling because finally I got to be miserable for a little while!
My new friends that I’m meeting through this crazy Swamp Romp are keeping me in very good spirits! They are totally nuts. We actually have a full team of 6, and more women want to join us so we are working on fielding a second team. A cool team name might be the Dirty Dozen 🙂 Here’s a brief email thread to give you an idea what I’m talking about with these crazy women…read from the bottom up…

Are you sure that’s a marathon kit and not a Alli’s Guaranteed Good Time Kit???
Sweet dreams!
(From Alli to Laurie)
I don’t think you really want to train in them [combat boots], but field-testing them would be a good idea for all of us as the date nears. My marathon kit includes duct tape, baby powder and greasy gel to keep you from chaffing.
Sounds like another day in paradise. One minute it’s sunny then… bam. Rain but don’t worry. The suuuun’ll come out in five minutes bet your bottom dollar that in five or six minutes come what may … etc. Does SAD effect people here in Warshington State? Or is just the depressing gray clouds and rain and cold?
