Paddle date
Dave and I cut loose for a couple hours this morning to paddle out to the Mokulua Islands. Dave has final papers due and worked yesterday, so this was just a quick respite from the grind, but well worth it! The wind picked up just as we launched so the swells were pretty good but it was fun once we got going. We tried to cut a course where the wraparound waves formed a confused “V”, hitting us from each side. Our strategy worked – or maybe we got lucky. You’re supposed to point perpendicular into the waves to avoid a “huli” but with our strategy we ended up about 45 degrees to both sets of waves. We just kept paddling and stayed upright somehow! When we beached, we took off to the right side of Moku Nui (north island) and explored the tide pools and coves. Next time we’ll head out around the left side and check that out, and hopefully bring Sam along if the swells cooperate!
