more odd events transpire

You’ve read about the truck lights staying on and the battery dying…well, the buzzer alert isn’t working so you aren’t warned you’re about to leave your lights on. We’re still not sure what that’s about. Last night we managed to leave the inside lights on the GTI, but mom and Pete caught it before we managed to kill another battery. This morning I awoke to a profusely tearing right eye, totally red and swollen. I had accidentally left my contacts in overnight two nights ago and thought one night of good shuteye would heal it up. It got worse, actually, so I called and spoke to the on-call doc (who happened to be MY doctor – poor guy – same one who had to pull my toenail off last week!). He said I should be seen today in case it was infected. So Dave and I spent the morning in the Tripler ER. So fun! Now I’m on an antibiotic for my eye and staring out of glasses that are probably 6 prescriptions old. I’m very light-sensitive (not fun here) and feeling just gorgeous from head to nasty toe. On top of all that – I went to give Caffrey her water this morning, one-eyed stumbling through the weeds before coffee, only to be started into full-on alert by a massive cane toad lying in wait. They can spray their venom 6′ and kill a dog. You can imagine the squeal and dance that I produced. I left the water running, the dog bowl on the stairs and ran for Dave to bail me out. He is scared of this toad as well. It’s as large as a small dog. He leaned over the stairwell to reach the water faucet, found he couldn’t reach, so he went out and sprayed the toad with water to drive him away (he hopped under the house). Wait ’til you see them…those of you who are visiting! Sammy is feeling better – thanks for your well-wishes. Just a slight cough now. He’s a trooper.

The female cane toads lay from 4,000 to 36,000 eggs per clutch, and breed at least twice per year, sooooo, what kind is yours – M or F??? They need water in which to lay their eggs though, so I think breeding at your house is moot — I hope!

Here’s a lovely one made into a purse: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/04/Agarkroete_fg4.jpg for anyone looking for a unique Christmas gift.

That photo is of Davey mowing the access-way to the pool — what a nice guy! The whole yard looks wonderful — the best it’s probably ever, ever looked. Why do Monday’s come so often for the “employed” among us? It’s so very nice to have him home!!
