it was gratitude this time

Gratitude for a healthy and sweet baby boy kept me up last night. I had a hard time falling asleep again – a bit wound up and overtired. I can see why kids get wound up the more tired they get. I do the same thing. So focusing on the positive – like gratitude for our blessings – seems to make the time spent awake less painful. Sleep did come, and Dave took over Sam-time this morning so I could sleep in. That was sooooo nice. An extra 1.5 hrs and I feel new again. Funny – it was only 8 hrs total sleep 😉

We bought my birthday present early – a new waterproof camera – so we can take video of Sammy swimming. You will NOT believe this kid. In about 2 weeks of playing in the pool with Dave and Tim he has found his fins. It’s unreal – he’s swimming the length of our 15 yard pool, coming up for air then diving down again to swim like a turtle (wide strokes with his “flippers”). He’s even tried the crawl and done a few strokes successfully! He wants to be like Daddy so much that he is really doing amazing things. He dives down to get things off the bottom and has even dived down to the bottom of the deep end with Dave’s help (he’s very buoyant!). I really am completely floored by his progress. He is so persistent and keeps inventing new “tricks” which he shows us proudly. I thought we were being lame by not having signed him up yet for swim classes at the Y. Dave was confident this progress would come naturally and he was right. It helps that Dave is such a strong, confident and fun swimmer. Sam has totally bonded with Daddy during “swim time.” Tonight he said it was “man time” in the pool and “no mommies” allowed! I wrangled an invite for Ben and me anyway…

Off to bed. 9pm. No time for me right now but that will come. I’m looking forward to getting back into reading my book – Stolen Lives – about a Moroccan princess imprisoned in the desert with her family for 20 yrs. Interesting read…makes nursing at midnight seem like a walk in the park.
