first night in our new home
Friday was absolutely nuts getting our 1000 lbs of expedited shipment stuff over to our new home in addition to sifting through the 9860 lbs of stuff the movers brought. Dave made two trips with the truck after my first trip – he had to load up beach cruisers, kayak, surf board, road bikes…I’m too weary to recount it all! So we worked with the movers all day and had them explode our stuff all over the house so they could take packing materials away. We tried to keep up with them as best we could, but ran out of room to stage things before they got put away. Sam spent much of the day with “Auntie Angel” – had a huge lunch, played race cars, helped her do laundry and took a nice nap. Angel brought him over in his stroller and he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the mess. He got into the fun quickly, though, and moved his plastic Sam-sized deck chair out of his room and all the way out to the deck with the others. It was so cute to watch him size things up and make some decisions. I managed to put his room together most of the way while Dave was making another trip to the beach cottage. Sam likes his room and was so happy to see his toys! We got him a surprise today…we’re doing his room in a jungle theme and Dave came home with a huge giraffe for him! It looks so great with his safari-style ceiling fan and blinds. He keeps pulling his giraffe out of the corner and tackling him. We started the day with a family bike ride to town for coffee. It was so great to ride into town with Sammy on the bike! He made a new friend – little Isabella – at the coffee shop. She even came out to watch him put his bike helmet on! Sam was really proud to show her all about it.
My clothes are all put away – I have hardly anything here, and what I have is small and lightweight. It packs away easily. Dave, on the other hand, is not going to fit his stuff into the closet as far as I can tell. He maintains that his clothes are simply bigger than mine, not more numerous. I’m looking at a pile 4’x6’x4′ in front of the closet. He has another pile only a little smaller on the floor of the closet, and about 6′ of shirts and pants already hanging up. We’re both a little demoralized about how long this move-in is taking. We blitzed it every other time and got about 90% of the way done in 3 days. This time I think we’ll be lucky to get 60% done in 3 days. It’s really hard when you have to watch a little buddy while unpacking. As you can imagine, it is in no way baby-proof here. Sam is being amazing, though. He’s not getting into anything, not knocking over precarious piles of lamps/books/glasses/pictures. He slept great last night and took good naps today, adjusting to his new room immediately. I think by now he’s pretty unflappable, and just wonders how long he’ll be here! So we’re about to go to sleep for our second night…hopefully we’ll wake up energized to take on the rest of the house. The kitchen is next…ugh!!!
You go girl. I feel your pain. I even understand the closet thing. I don’t know how it happened but Nick is taking up more closet than me too.
Snivel, snivel, cry, cry.
Wow guys, that sounds like quite a bit of work!! I hate unpacking!!
hope to see pics of the house when you are all done, cant wait to see the jungle room too…kisses to my pants!!
