crazy days, trip reflections and dessert envy

we’ve been back home for only 4 days and despite my best intentions, have been very busy ever since. i truly meant to take a day off to just unwind from our wonderful trip… but within hours i already had the bags unpacked, the laundry done, sam’s toys all put away. then i managed to dump sam’s travel companion (a bear beanie) head first into the toilet by his bath (my hands were full!)…so i had to do another load of laundry because moosie got left behind at pig and bear’s place in nyc. sounds like a real menagerie, i know.

and then things got stranger. the next day i went to the doctor for a burn that wasn’t healing (a casualty of making bread last week!). turns out i had a staph infection and am now on antibiotics. a couple hours later my desktop hard drive crashed…for the THIRD time in 3 yrs. that’s not cool. fortunately i have an external drive and back up nightly, but i was working on a rush job and hadn’t backed up my 2 hrs of work (i usually back up in the evening). the drive is still under warranty and some techie will be coming out to replace it for me (i insisted on new, not refurbished, this time). all this was on tues, and i’d only been home 24 hrs.

so i went to bed optimistic that wed would surely be better. other than sam figuring out how to dump some salsa on the carpet at a gathering of Navy spouses as soon as we walked in the door (despite me giving him a toy to play with while i sliced bread for 37 seconds!), we had a really great day. very optimistic about finally chilling on thurs…

but no…the randomness continued. i had to make another trip to the doctor because some gravel was coming out of my head! little tiny hard black gravelly things were coming out of my hair! i was hopeful it was just sand from the storm the kids created in the sand box the night before, but figured i should get it checked out. turns out it should be pretty harmless, but i’m going to a dermatologist since i’m a fair-skinned redhead with lots of sun exposure. i also have been busy selling things on craig’s list as we continue to downsize, finding dave a reasonable price for a one-way car rental tomorrow, doing a pre-move walk through, dealing with tech support for the failed drive, and more editing.

all of this has left me wiped out. tonight after dinner, sam and i reflected on how great it was to enjoy the yummiest of desserts each night of our trip. maureen – if you’re reading this, i was thinking of you and almost called except that it was 10:30pm your time! we miss carrot cake, cookies, chocolate cream pie…oh my! diane and jen – we miss brownies, banana cream pie, crumb cake…i dare not complete the list…

we have almost all the pictures compiled from the trip. sam and i watched them on the laptop during breakfast for about 20 min! he really enjoyed seeing the butterflies from the bronx zoo again, his nanag and grandpa, diane, jen, stacie and uncle cool, dan, mo, tim, jenny and amie, pig and bear, dad…we miss all of you! i will be compiling a dvd for you as soon as we get bill’s pictures. diane, if you have any, please send them along 🙂

enjoy your desserts!

I’ve read every word, and even though I’m in CA getting wonderful “update” calls from you, it’s a special bedtime treat to shuffle through your day by reading your “journal.” Oh, and btw, I love talking to sammypants on your cellphone!

    Love you huge,
    mom

to add to the intrigue – i’m selling lots of stuff on craig’s list to downsize our home before moving. the computer desk is being sold in about an hour to a young woman starting her own business. i asked what the business is and she said instructional training – oh, said i, very interesting, i have a training background too! what will you be training??? she responded – pole dancing, it’s the latest fitness craze and will be like yoga in a couple years. [imagine my reaction here!] she then added that she’s a world champion pole dancer and just returned from a competition in amsterdam. can’t wait to meet her! off to go clear off the desk. i am WIPED out! this afternoon sam and i go to meet a good friend in seattle for dinner. the adventures continue…
