We went to a free concert in Hawaii Kai last night with our friends and their girls. The boys enjoyed it, and Dave enjoyed quiet at home so he could (theoretically) nap before going in to work for the mid shift (midnight). He ended up running errands, but we had a great time. The Brothers Cazimero were born on the Big Island and went to school here on O’ahu with one of my neighbors. Their music is really captivating – the vocals are complex and they are very personable in concert. Sam enjoyed himself and Ben flirted with the seniors sitting next to us. Sam is asking when the next concert is going to be. I am still trying to hunt down the name of one of the songs so I am sure to get the right CD. We’ve already noted when they are next appearing in concert…and I made a note of other free Hawaiian music concerts so I don’t inadvertently miss them. One of the brothers spoke Hawaiian at the concert. I would really like to be fluent when I leave here. I know many words – often they are used in conversation, just swapped for the English equivalent – but I’d love to be fluent. The revival of Hawaiian culture in the 1970s means the language is no longer dead. That’s pretty cool. There are even immersion schools where only Hawaiian is spoken. Wish I had more time on my hands…
