Here we are heading out from Lanikai on our kayak paddle date. Destination: the Mokulua Islands. I've been wanting to go there for two years! Dave ditched his schoolwork and joined me! Yay!
The swells were pretty good...and the waves like to wrap around the island and converge in a very dynamic sort of "V" shape. Try pointing into that! We decided to point up the bottom of the V, so hitting both sets of waves as best we could bow-in.
There's Angel and a friend named Dave who is staying with them before moving back to Virginia. This was his first kayak trip!
We made it!

It's a bird sanctuary. This signage describes the ecosystem. We walked around the island to the rear where the waves crash in and create tide pools.
Dave went back for his snorkel gear so he could check one out. That's looking toward Kailua Beach.
Here we all are!
The "self portrait face" :)
We love Angel and Mike (who was playing soccer today). We've known them since 2001 in CT when Dave and Mike were on the NR-1.
Some tricky climbing to get to the tide pools.
Angel was taking a picture of me but had the camera pointed back at herself, almost taking a funny self portrait. So we decided to do it anyway :)
We were just talking about what if a rogue wave came in and got us...well, one did! We climbed back up onto this rock shelf.
Cool tide pools with interesting fish.
Dave jumped into "Queen's Bath" for a look.
Not too much going on...I guess thankfully, right? There is a cove called Shark's Cove that actually does have quite a few sharks in it back here.
Getting ready to head back. It's really neat to get off the big island and hang out on a tiny island.
That's where we went, about a mile away.
Here's Roni (Veronica) with the boys during our kayak date :) She is so fantastic with them and she's only 21! We are so lucky mom found her two years ago at Hawaiian Watersports :)
