my “policy” for integrating into any new culture, whether foreign or domestic, is full immersion…so i have decided to try one new fruit and one new fish each week. i have sitting on my counter a strange, spiny fruit i purchased at the farmers’ market this morning. i also have a butterfish fillet in my freezer. my project for today is to find mirin, sake and miso so i can make misoyaki butterfish on the grill in a couple days, after it marinades. stay tuned for updates on this evolving project…and if you can identify the fruit above, you will be the happy recipient of public praise for your investigative talents!
You go girl! Great job leading your family into Hawaiian life. i can’t believe I’m already back on the mainland, but at least with a whole raft of memories from Waimanalo/Kailua and you!
As soon as Pete gets back from provisioning the boat, I’m going to put him to the test of “what IS that fruit?”
Love you biggest!
If you’re trying to integrate, shouldn’t you be eating poi and taking hula lessons by now? Also, you need to start using capital letters when you type your messages.
arugala fruit? It’s been years!
