Sam is adjusting well…
NOTE: June pictures are up, including two videos. Click on “album” in the header above.
Here are the two boys – Ben is 16 days old here I think. We’ve been asked frequently how Sam is adjusting, I guess since he’s 3 yrs older and might be more cognizant of the change. He is adjusting really very well. A few bumps in the road of course – but nothing you wouldn’t anticipate and certainly not dramatic. No regressions on potty training, sleep patterns, no hitting the baby, etc. He’s been very tender and even said the other day that he loves Baby Ben of his own volition. His adjustment patterns actually all came the month before Ben arrived – he wouldn’t be separated from me, he kept getting up at night for bizarre reasons, thrusting “Bear” in our door and making him look around at us, then pull back out of the doorway, then open it up again and “look around”…very funny to be lurking in bed watching this. Eventually he decided to go back to bed since he knew he wasn’t going to get anywhere with us. We were pretty emphatic about nipping that little habit in the bud! As soon as Ben arrived, all that weirdness settled down. I think he’s delighted mommy is getting back to her old mobile and rambunctious self. Yesterday we contrived a new game that Sam calls “bunking” – I trot around with a huge beach ball between my legs and bonk into Sam, knocking him down. Then I jump from lounge chair to lounge chair, still with ball between my legs (rather like how I felt after birth! unable to walk gracefully!).
Leslie – this note is for you. My mom thought you’d really laugh – she said maybe she should come over earlier in the morning (she comes over from 9am-1pm on days I work then just whenever other days) so I could have a more peaceful morning. Well, I responded, mornings really aren’t bad at all until about 8:30am, then they start getting bad. She just laughed and laughed, then I realized that my morning was already 3 hrs old by 0830! Gone are the days of getting up at 0630, having coffee, checking email, and seeing my first-born come down the hall with a little ‘friend’ to show me and a sweet smile…
