standing watch by the dawn’s early light

my stalwart friend and adventure co-conspirator, and, and i had another great outing before the men returned. we decided to go stay at an old fort overlooking the route the ship takes on its return. we figured it’d be incredible to wake up, have coffee and watch the ship sail by early in the morning, then pack up and get the “boys”. good idea!!! it was all great until we woke up at 3:45am and saw the ship sailing by in the dead of night. we barely found it, actually, because it’s such a great big hulking blackness in the middle of Pacific NW blackness. only a few tiny lights on the deck inched by as we stared out the window of our little room.

we had a great time at the park – a good walk on the beach, gourmet dinner prepared by ang, sam enjoyed exploring all over the tiny restored quarters and sleeping in his own bedroom. we had a few climate control issues – sam’s room fluctuated wildly from sauna to cooler (hence the early morning wake-up) and our room was full-on sauna the whole time! to add more comedy to the trip, we’d decided to pretend we were camping out and just use sleeping bags on top of our beds instead of packing linens. well, our subzero down-filled bags were more than enough with the heat stuck on, so we sweltered!

we’re so happy to have the guys back, and ang is still a steady friend despite the crazy adventures she keeps finding herself in. i think she really comes along to make sure i don’t get in over my head! ha ha! and to take a few pictures along the way so she can document the silliness 🙂 click on the photo above for more pictures…

Precious pictures of sammypants. Looks like a fun trip, but you missed out on all the fun Caffrey had at her spa! 🙂
