A whole weekend in the woods!

Sam (and Ian, to right) and a bunch of other kids have been running wild in the woods! Between the three of us neighbors I think we have 5 acres for them to roam on, and a pond. Dave and I and another neighbor worked all day yesterday and today cutting and grooming trails so they can prowl around with walkie talkies "hunting" each other. They have even been introduced to "hunting rifles" and guns that shoot styrofoam "bullets." All this happened before we could have a summit on family gun laws, so we are just winging it now. So far guns get parked outside, and don't get pointed at people. But that rule only works so long - Sam and Ben of course managed to shoot each other. Then they went canoeing in the pond with our neighbors and collected frog eggs! Such a ton of fun! It's what we have always been dreaming of for them and we couldn't be happier. I enjoyed putting together a "treasure chest" cooler of snacks and drinks for the kids to keep at their fort in the woods, that way they'd have food and drink if they needed it. We also instituted an hourly check-in, and I am about to go online and find a cowbell. No surprise that Bainbridge has no cap guns...might have to get those online as well. My thinking there is it's less mess to clean up (just a cool smell) and no styrofoam bullets to chase down. We'll see - this is an evolving situation!
