We had our first Swamp Romp meeting yesterday, and it was fun to meet other ladies who are into doing crazy things. Our team name will likely be “Dirty Divas” unless we get any better suggestions. Any ideas from the peanut gallery? British pubs tend to have really awesome names, like The Romping Donkey, The Bull and Spectacles, or The Frog and Nightgown, so I would like our team name to be equally mystifying and conjure up funny images. We’re going to hike, run and have fun getting ready for this insanity. Somehow my friend Laurie roped me into auditioning for the Amazing Race later this month. I owed her one crazy outing since she went on a long hike with a broken toe and was a real trooper about it. So I told her in exchange I would say “yes” to something that really I would prefer to decline. She hit me up today with this wacky idea and of course I kept my promise, like a good friend 🙂

It’s also been a weird week for biological terms popping up in my path. One was a store named “Oogenesis” at the North Shore. It looks like a women’s boutique, but I was intrigued by the name because the term is for the process of meiosis that develops an ovum (egg) from the female primary germ cell. Very strange name for a store. I was getting sick the day we went to the North Shore, and on the way home I told Dave I really hate the “prodrome,” thankful for an apt word to describe the symptoms and dread that accompany the onset of a cold. Once I’m down for the count and totally sick I’m pretty good. It’s the prodrome I hate. Well – usually I’m pretty good. Here it’s hard to enjoy hunkering down inside when they sky is blue and the sun is out. It would be much easier in WA state where it’d likely be 36 degrees and raining. (Is that about right, Matt?)
