I thought it was creative genius to turn a bucket, half a cinder block and some wood shims into a tree stand. You can use the bucket any time the other 11 months of the year, unlike a “real” tree stand. Dave didn’t go for it, though. And thanks to his mom and dad, some grunting and advice from the sidelines, the tree is now in a real stand. My camera died just after Thanksgiving, but here is a mosaic of one of my favorite shots. It is soooo great to see Gail and Bill relax here. They are real naturals at the aloha spirit – they fit right in! Bill is doing all kinds of home improvement projects for us and Gail is making dinners. They are plotting and scheming ways to come out each winter for a few months to escape the weather…and we’re trying to convince them to stay with us! They are so easy to have here! Sam is really enjoying having a few more suckers for story time – he convinced Nana to read FOUR Thomas the Thank Engine stories (she didn’t realize they were four separate chapters!) and he loves when Bill reads him Cars and Trucks and Things that Go (Richard Scarry). Last night we started reading the story of Christmas. It’s a beautiful season, and we’re really (really!) blessed to have family nearby despite being on a rock in the Pacific. We miss all of you back home, but it’s gratifying to know you’re staying close via the pictures. We love hearing from you!!! Please keep writing 🙂
