responsible journalism

My mom sent me an article to read along with a little present for Sammy. It was about the liberal leaning of the media, and the author shared some interesting statistics to back up this long-held allegation. So I’ve been thinking lately about responsible journalism in the context of news about the war, as well as my own work contributing to scientific articles and poster presentations. I am meticulous about my responsibility as a writer and editor to preserve the integrity of the data, report findings responsibly and disclose limitations thoroughly. I choose my words carefully and consider how the message is crafted based on the power of the data. You may find the above picture completely repulsive and distasteful. My husband would likely have censored its publication, but he’s out on errands and I’ve had half a Bitburger lager. I find it hilarious! Take a look at this thing! I don’t know how it happened, but lately my big toenail has decided to go on independent operations and secede from my body. It’s been tilted up 45 degrees like a spoiler catching the wind as I tear around on the mountain bike with Sam. I’ve been doing surgical procedures to minimize further tilting and associated pain. This is what’s left. We’re having dinner with some friends tonight. Laurie is a nurse. I’ve already called to warn her that the TOE will be making an appearance, and if she has any morphine in the fridge, would she be so kind as to surgically excise it from my being. She was disgusted, but offered up her husband, Nate. Poor guy. I will take advantage. I feel this strange compulsion to share my toe’s horrific visage. Maybe it’s Halloween – I’m not into costumes, parties or haunted houses. I have been wondering why, but perhaps it’s because I’m drawn to my own real-life gore! This may be one instance where my reporting crosses the line. I’m willing to take that chance. It’s my blog, after all! 🙂
