signs that we’re officially moved in

Video: Extreme playtime

As I unpacked my temporary desk (a blue plastic accordion file that has been with me for 5 moves), I realized that we are officially settled in. When even the papers have found their permanent resting place, that’s a good sign!

virtual house tour!

Here are pictures of our home! It’s been exactly a month since we closed, and 27 days since we got the keys. We’ve accomplished a lot in that time –

Sam’s laugh and misc updates

Video: Sam’s laugh!

This is Sam’s most-requested video, so I am posting it where it’s easy to find when you need a good laugh. The deck was finished yesterday, and Sam and I planted trees and flowers all afternoon. We planted a lemon and lime tree, four hibiscus, two jasmine, transplanted a tea leaf and planted a couple palms.

We decided to sneak out and kayak after lunch today – a little reward for accomplishing so much this weekend! We got the office/guest room put together and the sea of wires and cables has been tamed around the entertainment center.

busy week, but time out for a little hike

Sam and I have been busy this week – I’ve had steady work and Sam has been very busy in his “office” managing a town (new set of blocks with buildings, trees, cars – he’s learning about STOP signs).

Spicy grilled opah

Dave grilled us some opah tonight, accompanied by asparagus/mushrooms/sesame seeds, salad and soba noodles. It was so ono (delicious) that I had to copy the recipe below in case you find any opah in your freezer 🙂 (We use the categories to find our recipes again – so this is as much for you as for us!)

first coffee bar guests | tandem kayak!

Video: The drive up to our house.

Video: Coffee bar is open! (Note: speed slowed to half because I panned too fast.)

We enjoyed an early morning latte/cappucino with Mike and Angel this morning. Dave made excellent drinks for us with his espresso machine and French press. The coffee tastes so fresh when brewed with a press. Even I am convinced the extra work is worth it 🙂

uniquely Hawaiian things

Hawaiian sea salt – amazing – add to fish with lemon and grill (we did a Pacific blue marlin the other night, with sticky rice and salad and pineapple dressing – very tasty!); last night we had Kalua pig made with hickory smoke flavor and sea salt, cooked on low in the slow cooker for 16 hours, also very good. You remember my misoyaki butterfish? Also quite tasty – I’m going to see if I can add it to the recipe list.
deoderant with alpine lichen in it – hmmm…bought this yesterday because it seemed interesting. will let you know how it works! smells good.

you know you’ve had a long week when . . .

you don’t feel like typing initial caps; you leave the sunroof on your car open and it just happens to pour last night; you can’t find your truck keys in the morning on your way to work and find them IN the truck, battery dead.

long crazy dayz

The contractors are almost done laying new tile and flooring in the kitchen/dining area and living room. I helped pull out tacks and carpet stuff today and Dave took a day off work to move furniture around.

Having food in the fridge makes all the difference

It really feels like home now that we can cook something to eat! And yes, Dave’s clothes are now in the closet. The four foot heap is totally gone! Goodwill is really going to be happy, too.

homeowner’s high causes extreme nesting

The three of us have been really enjoying getting set up in our new home. Everyone was asking if we were on a high with home-ownership but truly it didn’t hit until we left our home for a birthday party and realized we were going to be coming and going from this ONE place as a family for the next FIVE years! It was an amazing feeling, to start setting up our little routines. We feel so incredibly blessed. Just last night Dave said again that he still can’t believe we’re here, in our new home, exactly where we were hoping to live.

first night in our new home

Friday was absolutely nuts getting our 1000 lbs of expedited shipment stuff over to our new home in addition to sifting through the 9860 lbs of stuff the movers brought. Dave made two trips with the truck after my first trip – he had to load up beach cruisers, kayak, surf board, road bikes…I’m too weary to recount it all!
